GTO Engineering announces latest technical partner for Squalo, Randle Engineering to co-develop suspension and chassis

The latest engineering and development partnership for Squalo has been announced today. GTO Engineering has enlisted Randle Engineering as the technical partner for Squalo’s suspension and chassis development. The team of engineers will be responsible for testing and consulting on manufacturing processes to retain the key characteristics of Squalo, such as its light weight, driving involvement and engineering quality.

Squalo is GTO Engineering’s ground-up developed, purpose-built, lightweight (sub-1,000kg) and driver-orientated car that features a V12 engine designed and constructed in-house at its headquarters in Twyford, UK, paired with a Hewland Engineering co-developed five-speed transaxle gearbox, which also houses a limited-slip differential.

Alongside its role to assist in the development of the suspension and chassis for Squalo, Randle Engineering will also provide GTO Engineering analytical design engineering support for other elements of Squalo as the project continues through its development phase. This will help ensure the in-house team at GTO Engineering remains on track with key development phases such as the first mule, prototype, test car and ultimately, production of Squalo, the latter scheduled for end of 2023. Manufacturing the chassis and high-performance suspension is crucial to not only keeping the overall weight of Squalo to sub-1,000kg, but also to enhance the overall driving experience both on the road, on track and daily driving duties for customers.

Founded in 1994 by Steve Randle, Randle Engineering specialises in the application of core engineering principles to automotive, aerospace and robotic projects around the world. Most notably, the founder and CEO of Randle Engineering, Steve Randle was part of the

small, dynamic engineering development team to create the iconic McLaren F1 road car, and with several other impressive projects in the automotive industry under the team’s belt, GTO Engineering knew that Randle Engineering was the company to recruit to help develop the suspension and lightweight chassis for Squalo and draw on its production experience.

Managing Director and Founder of GTO Engineering, Mark Lyon said: “As we continue to develop Squalo, we are delighted to announce Randle Engineering as our latest partner, who will help us develop the chassis and suspension of the car. We will work hand-in-hand as development of Squalo continues over the coming months, Randle Engineering will make sure that our in-house team stays on track for all our crucial phases as it will also provide analytical design engineering support for other elements of Squalo.

“For Squalo, we want to work with the best of the best in their respective fields, so it was a clear choice for us to work with the team at Randle Engineering. Steve Randle’s portfolio speaks for itself and like us [GTO Engineering] the company was established in the mid Nineties. It is fantastic to be working with another like-minded company who has grown and evolved organically over the years, thanks to its dedication and innovative thinking.”

Founder and CEO of Randle Engineering, Steve Randle said: “When we were first approached by Mark [Lyon] and the [GTO Engineering] team about working on Squalo, it was simply something we couldn’t pass up on, to work and develop such an incredible product alongside GTO Engineering. I have been fortunate to work on some of the most iconic automobile projects. However, Squalo is something that no one has done before and that really does speak volumes about GTO Engineering and the company’s forward-thinking ideas for the future of the automotive industry. We are very much looking forward to developing the chassis and suspension of Squalo with the team at GTO Engineering.”

GTO Engineering’s Squalo was launched via design renderings with initial details in November 2020. A half scale model of Squalo was unveiled at Goodwood Revival in September 2021 and both Randle Engineering and Hewland Engineering are currently working together with GTO Engineering on their respective projects for Squalo. As the project continues to develop, production deliveries of Squalo remain on track for 2023.

The Squalo is a purpose-built vehicle, designed and built from the ground up at GTO Engineering’s headquarters in Twyford.
